WHAT IS BLOCK THERAPY?
A somatic therapy for physical and emotional release
The connective tissue that envelops every organ, muscle, nerve, joint, and bone in the body, fascia is essential to the function of the body and mind—but all too often neglected or ignored.
When compressed by unconscious breathing, poor posture, injury, and the like, fascia causes the body to feel tight and restricted—but Block Therapy frees the fascia.
With practice, Block Therapy supports your body and mind to release the tension and stress that brought you to the block to begin with. The question is: What will you release on the block?
How it Works
Block, breathe, release, repeat
-

01 Block
Using purpose-designed wood blocks, we’ll settle our bodies into positions of sustained pressure—using just our bodyweight and gravity.
-

02 Breathe
Using diaphragmatic breathing, we’ll activate our parasympathetic nervous systems, allowing our bodies to relax and deepen into each position.
-

03 Release
By deepening into each position, we’ll decompress the fascia and release the tension and stress our bodies and minds have been holding onto.
Why Blue Heron Fascia Wellness
A therapeutic approach to fascia release
Nervous System Regulation
Embracing a sense of calm begins with regulating your nervous system. With conscious diaphragmatic breathing, you’ll shift into a parasympathetic state, opening yourself to healing.
Physical Alignment
When we free the fascia, we align our bodies: Posture corrects, movement recovers, and mobility improves. Your blocking practice helps your body find its natural alignment again.
Emotional Release
Your stresses and traumas shape your body’s physical expressions of breath, posture, tension, and discomfort. Releasing your fascia releases the emotions you’ve been holding onto.

Helping you age on your own terms
Fifty years old and suffering from a bulging disc, I thought I was just aging. So, I found fleeting relief in pain meds and massage therapy—but the pain persisted. Until a chance encounter with Block Therapy changed the prognosis of my bulging disc, the persistence of my pain, and the course of my life.
It was 2016: A friend invited me to a Block Therapy class, calling it a “stretch” class. I stepped inside the studio and instantly felt skeptical: My body weight, breath, and a block? What could this possibly do? But after that first class, I slept better than I had in years—so, I returned to the block.
Class by class, my pain lessened and my body began realigning. In time, Block Therapy helped me restore the mobility and vitality I feared losing with age. Convinced of the power of Block Therapy to align our bodies, I began studying the modality alongside my daily practice in 2018.
In 2023, I became a Certified Block Therapy Instructor, and in 2024, I became a Certified Fascia Release Coach. By 2025, I was teaching Block Therapy in studios across the Okanagan Valley. It’s my sincerest hope that you find, not just relief from tension on the block, but yourself in my studio.
Whether you come to Block Therapy in your youth, your middle age, or your golden years; whether you start blocking in the face of injury, surgery, or disease; whether you arrive a skeptic or a convert, the block is always here for you—and I am, too. Let’s age on our own terms, together.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Fascia is the connective tissue that envelops every organ, muscle, nerve, joint, and bone in the body. When the fascia becomes compressed by unconscious breathing, poor posture, injury, surgery, and the like, the body feels tight, restricted, and pained. Fascia release can help.
-
Fascia release is a form of bodywork that uses sustained pressure to soften restriction in the body’s fascia. Most fascia release modalities rely on a practitioner’s hands, like myofascial release, and don’t empower you to become your own practitioner like Block Therapy does.
-
Block Therapy is a type of fascia release that uses purpose-designed wood blocks, diaphragmatic breathing, and positions of sustained pressure—using just your bodyweight and gravity to release fascia, discomfort, tension and stress. It was developed by Deanna Hansen, an Athletic Therapist of 20+ years.
-
Book The Opening Class: You’ll learn the basics of Block Therapy and fascia release, from diaphragmatic breathing to your first positions on the block.
-
Wear comfortable clothing, and avoid seams, zippers, or buttons that would cause unnecessary discomfort under the pressure of your bodyweight on the block.
-
Every class includes access to a yoga mat, block, towel, and tissues (for emotional release!) during class. Please bring a water bottle to hydrate throughout class.
-
Blocking can be painful, but the sensation of pain is always within your control. We teach you that your breath is your guide and each position can be modified to meet your body where it is comfortable.
